Last updated at 10:55 on 31 December 2025

    This group is running

Colehill Writers Group are a very friendly creative writing group who offers a safe, supportive and encouraging environment where members write together. We share our work if we wish to, but the aim is to inspire and support each other, rather than offering detailed critical feedback (and there are homemade cakes).
We meet up every third Friday in the Alec Moore Room from 1.30 - 4.00pm.
The group is self-supporting, so there is a reasonable charge of £5 per session to cover costs, with the first one free. We are open to all and new members are welcome, but numbers are limited to twelve.
If you are interested in coming along, please contact Ian on 07971104179 or email  ian.elsewhere@btinternet.com.
Please note that the group does not meet during August.

  • Dorset 2020 Art Society

Last updated at 12:36 on 11 March 2026

We are a friendly group of artists who come together for encouragement, sharing of ideas and doing what we love…paint! Our membership is a happy mix of amateur, semi-professional and professional people.  Membership is by personal invitation or in person.  Application can also be made by e-mail.

During the winter months our base is at St Michael's Church Centre, Colehill.  During the winter months we meet two times a month in total to paint, draw, study a still-life composition or carry out a portrait for which we arrange a model to sit for us.   Once a month, on a Saturday afternoon, we arrange workshops and demonstrations often with a visiting tutor / artist.  On Tuesdays the session runs from 10-45 til 2-00, on Saturdays the session runs from 1-00 til 4-00, often in the Main Hall and, occasionally, in the Alec Moore Room.

During the summer months a comprehensive programme of Plain Air painting opportunities is arranged. Our programme takes us from the coast to the depths of the Dorset Countryside which offers a wealth of painting opportunities and inspiration.  Throughout the year, with special permission from Wimborne Minster, we are fortunate to be able to sketch and paint on the Minster Green and display our work on many Saturdays from 10-00 til 4-00.

  • Local Vocal Choir

Last updated at 12:20 on 6 March 2026

    Local Vocal’s meets in the Church, Term-time on a Monday evening, 7.15 - 8.15pm.

Local Vocals is a choir based in Dorset but rather uniquely, rehearsing in five different locations, all led by Lesley Whatley.  All five choirs are taught exactly the same songs at the same time and we can all join together for major events such as the annual Festival of the Voice at Stourhead NT, knowing that we are all singing from the same song sheet.  Other than the major events, we also perform with smaller groups for local events which might just involve one of the local groups or maybe a combination of two or three.

We sing totally Acapella and no musical knowledge is required by our members.  Our repertoire includes popular songs from the past such as Barbara Ann and My Girl but also encompasses traditional world songs from as far apart as Argentina in the West and New Zealand in the East and everywhere in between.  New members are always welcome.
